YRT/Viva offers local and rapid transit services in all nine York Region municipalities. More than 120 routes keep residents connected within the Region, along with connecting services in the City of Toronto and the Region of Peel. In addition, Mobility Plus provides door-to-door shared-ride accessible public transit service for people with disabilities.
Our two-hour fares let you travel on any YRT/Viva vehicle for up to two hours in any direction with a single fare. Just remember to keep your validated ticket or transfer as proof of payment to board YRT/Viva vehicles.
- YRT was established in 2001 when The Regional Municipality of York amalgamated local municipal transit services
- YRT/Viva serves an extraordinarily large geographical area of 2,777 square kilometres, connecting nine municipalities and providing service to more than one million residents across York Region
- More than 19 million riders used YRT/Viva in 2010
- Approximately 73,000 boardings are made each weekday on YRT/Viva
- The YRT/Viva fleet is large and growing. It includes:
- 101 Viva Rapid Transit vehicles
- 323 YRT vehicles
- 23 Mobility Plus vehicles
- York Region approved the purchase of five gas-electric hybrid vehicles for 2010
- All Viva vehicles are operated on a bio-diesel fuel blend
- YRT/Viva offers more than 120 routes available at 4,700 bus stops
- Approximately 298,000 door-to-door trips were delivered by Mobility Plus in 2009 and more than 307,000 were forecasted for 2010
- Mobility Plus has over 7,900 registered users.
