SB-1.2 Low Energy Building Demonstration Projects

SCT building is a part of SCG, the largest conglomerate in Thailand, campus. Situated in Bangsue area, SCT building was built for more than 30 years old with the total floor area of 2,772 sq.m. In 2007, the management team set out a plan to renovate the building to be energy-saving one with the intent of solving energy crisis at that time. A year later the renovation started and lasted for approximately 9 months. The polices were clear, which were to reduce the energy consumption with an appropriate investment and to become a learning center for energy saving in buildings for public. However, the project faced many demanding constrains from the design phase until the construction phase such as having to overcome building’s undesirable conditions and construction with minimized effect to the working environment. The renovation was completed and the building was the first building to be awarded with Gold standard of Thailand’s Energy and Environmental Assessment Method (TEEAM). This is an astonishing feat considering hat TEEAM was tailor-designed for new construction.

Savings NarrativeSCT Building has successfully achieved a significant amount of energy saving
through key components.

  1. Building Envelope
    • Insulated glass with Low-E coating
    • Fiberglass Insulation
    • Fiber Cement Board
    • Extruded Polystyrene Foam
    • Color render
  2. Lighting system

SCT Building also incorporates high technology devices to ensure that lighting system is operated with a high level of efficiency. Automatic timer was installed to make sure that all lights are switched off effectively when not in use, such as lunchtime or after working hours.Motion sensors were also used in rooms where the light does not need to be switched on all the time, such as toilets.

  1. Renewable Energy

Solar cells are implemented in this building with enough generated electricity to light up a large part of 1st floor, such as reception hall and meeting rooms.
