GE’s Kazakhstan Evolution ES44ACi Locomotive provides advanced locomotive technology for the Russia/CIS market. This GEVO 12-cylinder diesel engine produces lower emissions while generating more horsepower than the Russian-built 2TE10 locomotives it replaces.
Environmental Benefits
GE’s Kazakhstan Evolution ES44ACi Locomotive, qualified by the UIC to meet EU IIIa emissions standards, is designed to reduce particulate matter emissions by approximately 75% and NOx emissions by 35% per kilowatt-hour compared to the Russian-built 2TE10 locomotives it replaces, which meet GOST standards. This can avoid an amount of PM and NOx equivalent to the emissions of 1,280 cars on North American roads.
Operating Benefits
GE’s Kazakhstan Evolution ES44ACi Locomotive can haul the same freight load, and reduce maintenance costs by 17% compared to the Russian-built 2TE10 locomotives it replaces, which meet GOST standards. This means that if a customer replaced 100 2TE10 locomotives with 100 ES44ACi locomotives, the savings — due primarily to reduced maintenance costs — would be approximately $328 million over the fleet’s 20 year useful life.
