Chaophraya Yommarat Hospital is a 602-bed public general hospital (a medical center for the upper central region of Thailand). More than 200,000 people (excluding 1,525 hospital staff) visit this hospital annually. Since 1942, the Ministry of Public Health, which is the owner, has been providing medical and public health services within the hospital. Later, the size of the hospital was increased to 12 buildings. The Hospital has been operating 24 hours per day (8,760 hours per year). The energy resources of Chaophraya Yommarat Hospital can be classified into 2 types: electricity and diesel oil.
Since 2012, the average of total energy consumption of this hospital under the control of the director of the hospital has been 25,001,671.43 MJ/Y. As a result, the trend of energy consumption significantly declined due to the participation of staff in an energy conservation program that was run by an energy conservation committee team, energy specialists and engineer consultants. The 3P’s (place, people and process) strategy was applied to the energy conservation program.
Form 2012 until now, conservation activities investment, The Hospital has reduced the energy consumption more than 13,635,579.01 MJ. The reduction of energy consumption gave us a total savings of over 16,821,922.74 baht (467,275.63 USD). Recently, Chaophraya Yommarat Hospital was awarded the Thailand Energy Awards 2015 and awarded winner ASEAN Energy Awards 2015 type of energy management of large building control, Master award of public health to reduce global warming 2015 and also certified the standard system ISO 50001:2011
Savings Narrative:
Chaophraya Yommaraj Hospital is the hospital that is supported by the government. So the hospital will receive subsidy from the government in each year from allocation of annually budget which is limited. According to this limitation, all employees are going to be focused on no-investment action in energy conservation program which developed from Process Analysis (PA) for the highest efficiency and properly resource usage through the obligation of the hospital. The remaining statement will be brought for the investment of new technologies which in each process have to be considered by executive director of the hospital. Moreover, all consideration process will be measured by short-term investment and short period of time for pay back, not exceed than 3 years, or investment for reinforce the image of the hospital about Green and Clean hospital which is eco-friendly as showed in the table below.
