  • Microgrid: Exploring Business Scenario Models for APEC Economies

    In December 2011, APEC Budget and Management Committee approved a project proposal under the title Piloting Smart/Micro Grid Projects for Insular and Remote Localities in APEC Economies (No. EWG 15/11A). The project was developed by the Russian Federation within the APEC New and Renewable Energy Technologies Expert Group (EGNRET) which is a sub-forum of the APEC Energy Working Group (EWG).

  • Boston Silver Line

    The Boston Silver Line, operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, began phase 1 operations on July 20, 2002 and phase 2 operations on December 17, 2004. Phase 1 (Washington Street) is a 2.2 mile route with 13 stops between Dudley Square and the Downtown Crossing. Phase 2 (Waterfront) is a 1.5-mile route that runs that serves three routes including Logan International Airport (SL1), the Boston Marine Industrial Park (SL2), and City Point (SL3). The two are segments are not connected; however there is a phase III that is proposed to connect the two around 2016.

    Clark County Public Transportation (C-TRAN) is saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by installing photovoltaic systems and retrofitting its buildings with lighting upgrades and advanced temperaturecontrol systems along with new, high efficiency mechanical equipment. These improvements were made possible thanks to a $1.5 million grant from the TIGGER Program and incentives from the Energy Trust of Oregon.

  • Wenatchee Electric Bus Project in Washington

    Link Transit is incorporating vehicle efficiency technology into its Wenatchee bus fleet by purchasing five electric trolley buses along with charging stations. The 22-foot, low floor, accessible electric trolley buses will operate on two downtown routes in Wenatchee, Washington.

    When Community Transit needed to replace 15 older diesel buses at the end of their service life, the transit agency looked to the TIGGER Program to cover the incremental cost—$200,000 per bus—of adding hybrid propulsion systems to the new buses it planned to purchase.

  • VIA Fast Charge Electric Bus Project in Texas

    VIA Metropolitan Transit is using a $5 million TIGGER award to add three all-electric, battery powered buses, powered with 100% renewable energy, into its San Antonio, Texas, bus fleet. When the buses and the related quick battery charge infrastructure are incorporated into the fleet, the buses will produce zero emissions and the system will offer the cleanest bus operation available from energy source to the road.
