The first Clean Energy Ministerial was held in Washington D.C., July 19-20, 2010.
On July 19, ministers met in government-only roundtable sessions to share successful policies, programs and other steps taken to develop and deploy clean energy. They also discussed issues associated with scaling up clean energy amid fiscal austerity, as well as the potential to realize dramatic energy efficiency gains through coordinated action. A Public Forum on July 20 brought ministers together with over 500 participants from the private sector and non-governmental and multinational organizations, for panels structured around the three tracks of the Ministerial—energy efficiency, clean power supply, and energy access— and to make announcements of private-sector commitments aligned with the Ministerial’s goals.
