Beijing Bike Sharing Project

Beijing is set to roll out its second-ever municipal bike-sharing service. Beijing bike sharing stations have been installed in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang Districts of Central Beijing. Unlike the terminated private company bike-share system established in advance of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, this service will be owned by the city. The city plans to install 20,000 bicycles in 1,000 stations by the end of this year, and 50,000 bicycles by 2015, according to the Beijing Radio Network. The official launch date has not been set.

The launch is meant to address declining bike usage and ownership patterns in the city, with a decrease from 80% in the 1980s to only 20% today.
