Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) pilot project and National AMI Deployment Plan in Chinese Taipei.

The “National AMI Deployment Plan” has been approved by Chinese Taipei on 23th June 2010. The plan includes two parts, High Voltage and Low Voltage AMI deployment. The industrial (High Voltage) AMI deployment is aimed to be completed in 2012, with a  total of 23,000 smart meters. The deployment target of residential (Low Voltage) AMI is 6 million meters, 50% of total residential meters. A pilot project for residential AMI, aiming at building up the full system operation, was kicked-off in 2010. The first stage of residential deployment target for 10,000 meters will be completed in 2012, allowing for technology and cost-benefit analysis. The second stage deployment target for 1 million meters will be completed in 2015, and the final stage deployment plan of 5 million more meters will follow with an undeclared timeline.

With the most large-scale deployments in the industry, Chinese Taipei has successfully integrated different meters with the BOE AMI Demo platform in phase one of smart meter pilot program in Taiwan by ITRI. Meanwhile, it also provided local partners training and frontline support to save collaborators time and cost on development. At the date of this publication, 746 meters have been installed, different communication protocols including PLC, ZigBee and WiFi have been tested, and a Traditional Chinese interface for its customer web portal has been set up. In 2012, BOE will continue to work alongside local partner in installing 300 additional meters, as well as providing some other research, such as Home Area Network (HAN), extra-service research, and other technology verification. Tai-power will soon announce the winners of the 10,000 meter residential pilot project as part of the National AMI Deployment Plan.
