Sam Schwartz Engineering

Interview with Sam Schwartz from Penn IUR.

Penn Institute for Urban Research talks with Sam Schwartz of Sam Schwartz Engineering (SSE). SSE focuses on transportation challenges in urban environments, where density makes open space a premium. We discuss what groundbreaking strategies are being employed to accommodate the various transportation needs of individuals in an urban setting given the obvious space constraints. Sam delves into the important role that design plays in traffic engineering, extending beyond merely adhering to guidelines. We then broach the topic of the hurdles that we designers currently face in improving transportation infrastructure domestically and abroad. Finally we get into transportation tools that will help achieve more energy efficient transit infrastructure.
